Abraham Lincoln Birthplace NHS Announces Summer Programming

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace NHS will provide special programming during the 2008 summer season focusing on the February 12, 2009 bicentennial celebration of our 16th president’s birth. All events are free and open to the public.

  • May 24, 2008 – Larue County High School band will provide a concert on the grounds of the Birthplace at 2 p.m. The concert will take place at the foot of the Memorial Building steps. Visitors can sit on the steps to listen.
  • May 26, 2008 – Lincoln’s Boyhood Home at Knob Creek will be staffed daily between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • May 26, 2008 – park staff will begin offering four tours a day at the Birthplace, 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
  • July 4, 2008 – A musical tribute to Abraham Lincoln with period and patriot songs at 5 p.m. This program will also take place at the foot of the Memorial Building and visitors are encouraged to sit on the steps to listen.
  • August 21, 2008 – This is the 150th anniversary of the first Lincoln/Douglas debate held in Ottawa, IL. The park will host a costumed re-enactment of this debate three times during the day. The event will be held outdoors, weather permitting, otherwise indoors. Times for this event will be 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
