HODGENVILLE –Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park announces the extended summer operating hours for the Birthplace and Knob Creek Units. Beginning May 30th, the public can visit the Birthplace Unit located on U. S. 31E three miles south of downtown Hodgenville from 8:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. EDT. Park staff will be present at the Lincoln Boyhood Site at Knob Creek located approximately 7 miles east of Hodgenville on U. S. 31E from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EDT on a daily basis through the summer months until Labor Day Weekend. The park staff will conduct a variety of programs throughout the summer months and cultivate a garden at Knob Creek for visitors to learn about farming during Lincoln's youth. Visitors can also look forward to a musical concert on July 4th at the Birthplace Unit when the Saxton's Cornet Band will perform a free, one-hour concert beginning at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate the Fourth of July and to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. The Park has over seven miles of trails and two picnic areas to enjoy. Visitors can also see wildlife including white-tail deer, turkeys, and song birds that nest here in the summer months. A free movie, "Abraham Lincoln: The Kentucky Years," is shown during operating hours in the Birthplace Visitor Center.
