As part of National Park Week, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park in Hodgenville will celebrate Junior Ranger Day on Saturday, April 23, 2016. The Junior Ranger program helps kids get involved with the story of Kentucky's Abraham Lincoln, when he was just 'Little Abe.' Every child who completes the program will receive one of the park's limited centennial badges, which are only available this year. The park will also offer other activities that day that the whole family can enjoy including making a clay pot to take home with them, learning about the NPS Passport program, walking on a park trail and visiting the first memorial building ever constructed for Abraham Lincoln. A highlight of the day will occur at 1:00 pm EDT when Raptor Rehab of Kentucky will present some very special visitors for people to learn about including owls, falcons and even a Bald Eagle. No fees or reservations are required; all events are free and open to the public. Schedule of Events: Park Entrance: 8:00 am to 4:45 pm (EDT); Free Junior Ranger Program: Available all day; Free Pottery Program: Available all day while supplies last; Free Stamping Party (NPS Passport) : 11:00 am to 12:00 pm (EDT); stamps are free; cost of NPS Passport Book ($9.95) Birds of Prey Program: 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm (EDT); Free For more information on the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park, visit the park's website at: https://www.nps.gov/abli or the park's Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/LincolnBirthplaceNPS. |
