On February 12th, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace will host several special events to mark the 205th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. All events are free and open to the public. All events are scheduled on Eastern Time. At 2:00 pm park staff members will continue an annual tradition of placing a wreath at the Symbolic Birth Cabin in the park's Memorial Building. At 2:30 pm Park Superintendent Bill Justice and Carl Howell will unveil a newly-donated museum object. The original Thomas Lincoln Jr. limestone grave marker has been donated by Mr. Howell to the park. The historic gravestone inscribed with the letters TL was carved by Thomas Lincoln for his son's grave in the Redmon family cemetery. The younger brother of Abraham Lincoln is thought to have been born in 1812 and lived for a short time. The stone will be displayed in the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Visitor Center. At 3:00 pm a 25-minute documentary, Yosemite: A Gathering of Spirit, will be shown in the park visitor center auditorium. This Ken Burns documentary chronicles the formation of Yosemite through the signing of the Yosemite Grant that was signed by President Lincoln in 1864. "We are very excited to have so many special events that our visitors can participate in to mark the anniversary of Lincoln's birth," said park Superintendent Bill Justice. "We are particularly pleased with the addition of the Thomas Lincoln Jr. gravestone and the story it helps tell. We invite everyone to join us in remembering Abraham Lincoln and the legacy he left us including the idea of setting aside lands for the public to enjoy."
