As part of the Sesquicentennial commemoration of the the Campaign and Siege of Vicksburg, Vicksburg National Military Park invites visitors to step back in time for an evening candlelight walk in Vicksburg National Cemetery. There, visitors will meet those that made the supreme sacrifice and shaped the story of our nation.
Tours begin at 7:00 p.m., and depart every half-hour, each lasting approximately one hour. Participants are urged to wear comfortable walking shoes, bring flashlights, and dress appropriately for weather on this half - mile walk along the cemetery road.
Vicksburg National Cemetery can be reached by turning north on Cherry Street from Clay Street. Cherry Street becomes Fort Hill Drive and terminates at the back gate of the military park. Parking will be in the USS Cairo Museum parking lot.
This event is free, however, reservations are required, with each tour limited to 25 visitors. For reservations and directions, please call (601) 636-0583.
