NPS Photo General Lloyd Tilghman Monument, Champion Hill Battlefield General Tilghman was interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg, but in 1902, at the request of his sons, his remains were disinterred and reburied in New York City. |
Did You Know?
The 43d Mississippi Infantry's mascot, Douglas the Camel, remained with the regiment until Vicksburg where he was killed by Union sharpshooters. Douglas is honored with his own grave marker in Vicksburg's Cedar Hill Cemetery.
