This unit was attached to Maj. A.H. Chalmers' 18th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry, of Brig. Gen. James R. Chalmers' 5th Military District (headquartered at Panola, MS), Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Department of the West, and commanded by W.R. Mitchell. Later this organization was redesignated as Co. A, 18th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry State Troops.
