Monument is located at the north end of Navy Circle, off South Washington Street, at the old Mississippi River Bridge. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. William Vandever's 1st Brigade of Maj. Gen. Francis J. Herron's unattached Division, Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Army of the Tennessee and was commanded by Col. John C. Black. [Refer to Herron of Iowa and to pages 3 & 7, Volume I of the WPA Monumentation Survey Books.]
