This unit was attached to Col. Benjamin C. Christ' 3rd Brigade of Brig. Gen. Robert B. Potter's 2nd Division, Maj. Gen. John G. Parke's IX Army Corps (Detachment) on Maj. Gen'l William T. Sherman's exterior line and was commanded by Lt. Col. Joseph H. Barnes. [Refer to Potter of New York.]
