Monument is located outside of Vicksburg National Military Park on former park property in the City of Vicksburg, on Hall's Ferry Road at (north) Illinois Circle midway between Interstate 20 and Confederate Avenue. This unit was attached to Col. Amory K. Johnson's 3rd Brigade of Brig. Gen. Jacob G. Lauman's 4th Division, Maj. Gen. Cadwallader C. Washburn's XVI Army Corps (Detachment) and was commanded by Maj. Hinman Rhodes.

Did You Know?

Thomas O. Selfridge

Thomas O. Selfridge, captain of the USS Cairo, commanded three boats which sank during the war. Each began with the letter "C"-Cumberland, Cairo, and Conestoga. The coincidence was noted after the Conestoga sank, and Selfridge was assigned to the USS Osage, which survived to the end of the war.
