This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Lloyd Tilghman's 1st Brigade, of Maj. Gen. William Wing Loring's Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Col. Joseph M. Wells and Maj. George W. B. Garrett. During the siege of Vicksburg, the unit was attached to Col. Arthur E. Reynold's and Brig. Gen. John Adams' (assumed command 8 June 1863) 1st Brigade, of Maj. Gen. William Wing Loring's Division, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Army of Relief, Department of the West.
