Please note: There is no public access to this monument A multiple monument is located at Iowa Circle, former park property in the City of Vicksburg, which is south of Interstate 20 and modern Iowa Avenue. The bronze unit tablet is missing, presumed stolen. A sharpshooter's line tablet was formerly located at a site now occupied by businesses on Pemberton Blvd. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. William W. Orme's 2nd Brigade of Maj. Gen. Francis J. Herron's unattached Division, Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Army of the Tennessee and was commanded by Lt. Col. Daniel Kent.

Did You Know?

Thomas O. Selfridge

Thomas O. Selfridge, captain of the USS Cairo, commanded three boats which sank during the war. Each began with the letter "C"-Cumberland, Cairo, and Conestoga. The coincidence was noted after the Conestoga sank, and Selfridge was assigned to the USS Osage, which survived to the end of the war.
