Monument is located on Grant Avenue 100 yards south of the Kansas Memorial. This unit was attached to Col. George W. Neeley's detached brigade in Brig. Gen'ls Jeremiah C. Sullivan (relieved 6/3/63) & Elias S. Dennis' District of Northeast Louisiana and commanded by Maj. Elvis P. Shaw.

Did You Know?

Old Douglas Headstone, Cedar Hill Cemetery

The 43d Mississippi Infantry's mascot, Douglas the Camel, remained with the regiment until Vicksburg where he was killed by Union sharpshooters. Douglas is honored with his own grave marker in Vicksburg's Cedar Hill Cemetery.
