Tuzigoot Astronomy Talk and Star Party

On the evening of Saturday, June 4, 2011, the National Park Service will host an astronomy talk and star party at Tuzigoot National Monument, located at 25 Tuzigoot Road in Clarkdale, Arizona.

The monument will open at 7:00 p.m., with the astronomy talk at 7:30. Tuzigoot pueblo will be lit for the evening, and while the pueblo and Tavasci Marsh trails will be closed, visitors can see the monument's brand new, interactive exhibits inside the refurbished Great Depression era museum until 8:00. The Astronomers of Verde Valley will have their telescopes out and will guide visitors through the cosmos to see planets, stars, galaxies, nebulae, and more from 8:00 until 10:30. Native American flute player Wolf's Robe will play throughout the evening, providing accompaniment to this night beneath the stars.

Participants should bring comfortable shoes, water, insect repellant, and binoculars if they have them. Flashlights are allowed, but all lights must be covered with red lenses.

The program is free. For more information, please call Park Ranger Case Griffing at (928) 567-3322, extension 230.
