San Juan National Historic Site and Museo del Niño de Puerto Rico are joining efforts again this year to celebrate International Children's Day on Sunday, November 14 on the grounds of Castillo San Felipe del Morro from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 pm.While it may not be locally well known as a "holiday," Children's International Day is widely celebrated in numerous nations around the world.First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to observe as a day of understanding among children and of activity promoting the right to be happy and welfare of the world's children. The focus of this year's celebrationwill be on children's rights to health, nutrition, education and participation.

Children's International Day also meets President Obama's America's Great Outdoors Initiative to promote and support innovative community-level efforts to conserve outdoor spaces and to reconnect Americans, especially children, to the outdoors.Throughout the day, children and their families will be able to visit El Morro to learn about the history of the fortifications, as well as to enjoy and participate in artistic presentations, traditional games, dances, walks, martial arts demonstrations, among other surprises.  San Juan National Historic Site has been partnering with Museo del Niño de Puerto Rico for different events and activities on behalf of the children's well being, education and enjoyment."We are pleased to be working with Museo del Niño again this year in celebrating Children's International Day at El Morro," said park superintendent, Walter J.
