News Release - SAN JUAN NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

On Saturday, September 24, San Juan National Historic Site will celebrate National Public Lands Day, a free-fee day.For this celebration, the park is looking for volunteers to work from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in assisting park staff and other volunteers in the removal of trash around Fort San Juan de la Cruz (known as El Cañuelo) and the beach around Isla de Cabras in Toa Baja.

National Public Lands Day gives volunteers an opportunity to give back to the public lands and natural environment we all enjoy and care for.National Public Lands Day has been held annually nationwide since 1994 as a way to celebrate, enjoy and learn about the great outdoors. This event supports First Lady Obama Let's Move Outside initiative which engages families and youth to get outdoors and be active through hands-on fun activities.

"This should be a great day for having fun outdoors while conserving our cultural and natural resources and learning more about Fort San Juan de la Cruz.Adult volunteers will receive a coupon that waives entrance fees to Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristóbal," said Superintendent Walter J. Chavez.
