San Juan National Historic Site will once again host an Artisan Fair on the grounds of El Morro. This year's Artisan Fair de El Morro will be expanded to three days and will be held from Friday, July 20 through Sunday, July 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Over 150 artisans from the island are expected to participate in this year's fair.

A daily program featuring live demonstrations, musical performances and Ranger Talks will give visitors an excellent opportunity to enjoy the fortifications while experiencing performers and local artisans displaying and selling their crafts. This year's theme or emphasis is on children, with many of the performers and demonstrations focusing on children. National Park Service staff will be providing Interpretive Programs on local culture and history of musical instruments, games and other crafts.

"We are very pleased to be working with our local craftspeople and performers to produce this, our 8th Artisan Festival, held on the grounds of Castillo San Felipe del Morro" says Superintendent Walter J. Chavez. Castillo San Felipe del Morro provides such a grand setting for this type of event. The fair which was first held in 2005 was developed by park staff to share local culture with visitors to the site, while giving our local artisans a great venue to sell their crafts. The fair has continued to grow each year, as it has also become a favorite of the artisans. "I encourage you to come out to Castillo San Felipe del Morro and enjoy this year's activity, which is produced with the excellent support of our partners, the Municipality of San Juan, PRIDCO and others" added the Superintendent Again, this year, to help promote the Artisan Fair, artisans will provide demonstrations and sell their crafts in Castillo San Felipe del Morro every weekend beginning June 9th through July 11th.These artisans will be featured from 9 am to 6 pm each Saturday and Sunday leading up to the fair.

"This event is of great importance for the capital city at the cultural, economic and social development because it allows us to expose ourselves internationally as a country with immense wealth craft," said the Mayor of San Juan Jorge Santini.
