Be A Junior Ranger

At the Nez Perce National Historical Park visitor center in Spalding, Idaho, a Junior Ranger Program is available for ages 5-8 and for 9-12 year olds. Packets include scavenger hunts, word puzzles, fill-in-the-blanks walking tours. The packets include notebook, pencil and Junior Ranger sew-on patch. There is no cost to participate. Big Hole National Battlefield also has a Junior Ranger program that asks questions about objects and signage in the Museum. Successful completion of the questionaire is rewarded by the presentation of a Big Hole Junior Ranger Badge. There is no cost to participate. There are hundeds of junior ranger programs at parks all over the United States and its territories. In September of 1805 Lewis and Clark crossed into Nez Perce country. A debate ensued among the Nez Perce. Should they assist these strangers or attack them? A female Nez Perce elder, Wetxuuwíis (Wet-k'hoo-wees)urged her people to do them no harm. Her words were heeded; the expedition was welcomed.
