  • Prescribed Fires Scheduled for April 10-12, 2014

    Closures include Slant Rock Campsite, Backcountry Roads 01, 02, 03 and 04 on the days of the burn and the day after. Slant Rock Burn Unit is located on the north side of Highway 35 and west of County Road 103. The burn will enhance native habitats. More »

Operating Hours & Seasons

The Little River Canyon National Preserve business office is located in the Little River Canyon Center building owned by our partner, Jacksonville State University Field School. We lease office space from them. The National Park Service staffs the front desk of the the Little River Canyon Center with Volunteers and staff to welcome visitors, give directions, etc.

Canyon Mouth Picnic Area

(This is a day-use area located in Cedar Bluff, Alabama)

  • Sunday - 10-5 CST
  • There is a $3 user fee per vehicle for this area. Cars within the gates after hours are subject to be towed or locked in.

All areas of the park are open only during daylight hours.


February 1 - September 30

Camping is only at three designated primitive campsites in the Backcountry Area. One group per site. No reservations required, first come first served. All tents must be on tent pad (10x20). Only one tent pad per site.

Little River Canyon was once known as May's Gulf. The citizens of Fort Payne and Centre, Alabama voted to change the name in 1953.
