Calling all Scouts!

Hamilton Grange National Memorial offers educational programs geared towards scouting groups and non-aligned scouting organizations. There are two programs to choose from:

Junior Ranger Tour

Scouts will work on the Hamilton Grange Junior Ranger booklet and will go on a self-guided or ranger-led historic house tour. They will then be "officially" sworn-in as Junior Rangers and will receive their badges. The program is available any day of operation. Junior Ranger booklets may be obtained at the park, or may be downloaded in advance from our Junior Ranger page.

House and Grounds Tour

Scouts will go on a ranger-led or self-guided historic house tour and will then explore the grounds to learn about the Hamiltons' original outbuildings and native trees on the property. The program is available all day during days of operation.

You can request a program by completing a form (228 KB, fillable) and faxing it to [phone], or e-mailing it to e-mail us. Please note: Your booking is not guaranteed until you have received a confirmation e-mail from a Hamilton Grange ranger. At this time, the programs are only available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Scout Ranger Program

 

Scout Ranger Patch

The Scout Ranger program is cooperative effort between the National Park Service (NPS) and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It is a component of the BSA umbrella initiative Good Turn for America which encourages young people to "Do a Good Turn Daily" (special thoughtful acts of kindness), help other people and participate in community service projects.

In recognition of their resource stewardship activities, Scouts are awarded certificates and/or patches for their participation.

While volunteer opportunities are not always available at relatively small historic sites like Hamilton Grange National Memorial, scouts who participate in our regularly scheduled programs, reserved tours with a troop or other group, or a special event in the park, can count that activity towards their award. There are also a number of other National Park Service (NPS) sites in the New York City area that can help a Scout achieve their Scout Ranger goals. Earn a certificate

Participate for five hours in either an educational program or volunteer service project.

Download the certificate. (Use of the certificate is on the honor system, as the certificate should only be downloaded after contributing five hours to project.)

Earn a patch

Participate for ten hours in either an educational program or volunteer service project.

Scouts will be awarded a patch upon verbally reporting their completion of the program requirements to an NPS employee or volunteer at a visitor center or information center. Hamilton Grange National Memorial usually has a supply on hand, but it is a good idea for you or a troop leader to call in advance to make sure we have one ready for you when you visit. Patches are not mailed out.

Scouts interested in keeping a log of their hours may use the Activity Sheet. This is not a requirement, but keeping track may assist you in determining how many hours you have completed.

Girl Scouts

The Girl Scout Ranger program is a cooperative effort between the National Park Service and the Girl Scouts of the United States of America and is a component of the GSUSA's Elliott Wildlife Values Project "Linking Girls to the Land" program.

To recognize their leadership efforts and resource stewardship activities, girls earn certificates and/or patches for their involvement in educational, volunteer or action projects.

While volunteer opportunities are not always available at relatively small historic sites like Hamilton Grange National Memorial, Scouts who participate in our regularly scheduled programs, reserved tours with a troop or other group, or a special event in the park, can count that activity towards their award.
