Grand Canyon, Ariz.–A break in the Transcanyon Pipeline occurred over the weekend. Because of the break's location, there is no drinking water on the North Kaibab Trail at Cottonwood Campground or Manzanita Rest Area (formerly Roaring Springs Residence). The break is located north of Phantom Ranch, in an area on the North Kaibab Trail known as the Box.

Crews will begin repairing the break today and should have it fixed sometime this week. At this time, drinking water is available at Phantom Ranch.

All Grand Canyon National Park trails remain open. Visitors hiking the inner canyon trails must be self-sufficient and be prepared to carry or treat all drinking water. The National Park Service encourages all hikers to be prepared and Hike Smart. More information is available on the park website at https://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/hike-tips.htm.

Pipeline breaks are not uncommon and the National Park Service is usually able to maintain operations without significant disruptions to visitors. Visitors planning to use the North Kaibab, South Kaibab, and Bright Angel trails in the next several days may also contact the park's Backcountry Information Center at 928-638-7875.
