Dry Tortugas National Park Opens Following Tropical Storm Isaac  

HOMESTEAD, Florida - Dry Tortugas National Park experienced minor impacts from Tropical Storm Isaac.  Visitor facilities will reopen on Thursday, August 30.  

Dependent upon weather conditions, all licensed commercial transportation to the park including ferry boat and seaplane services expect to resume operations on Thursday August 30.  However, visitors are encouraged to phone ahead for information on concession operations and tours.

Dr. Samuel Mudd

Fort Jefferson served for a time as a remote prison facility. One of its most famous inmates was none other than Dr. Samuel Mudd, who set the leg of John Wilkes Booth following the assassination of President Lincoln. Mudd was incarcerated on the Dry Tortugas for only four years, from 1865 to 1869.
