On Wednesday August 26, 2009, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area will close the parking lot at the Columns Drive entrance to Cochran Shoals. The closure is to accommodate the installation of a new restroom facility at the parking lot. The new facility is prefabricated and will arrive on three tractor trailer trucks. In addition, intermittent closures of the parking lot may occur the day before and the day after the installation. Funding for this project is through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Did You Know?
Typically, rivers meander and change course over time. However, the Chattahoochee River is one of the oldest and most stable river channels within the United States, since it's essentially "locked" in place, flowing along the Brevard Fault Zone.
