Contact: Rick Slade, Chief of Science & Resource Management, 678-538-1321
Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area would like to invite the public to comment on the recently completed draft Environmental Assessment entitled Chattahoochee River Docks Environmental Assessment. The purpose of the proposed project is to provide the public with improved river access via new docks, boardwalks and observation structures within five City of Roswell parks along the Chattahoochee River. The EA describes the purpose and need for the project, alternatives that were considered, existing conditions at each of the five sites, and the effects of the alternatives on natural and cultural resources.
Two alternatives are addressed in the EA. The No Action/Unofficial River Access Alternative would continue existing management actions with no modification to the landscape or any other elements of the project area. The Low Impact Mechanical Stabilization with Bioengineering Measures and Official River Access Alternative would focus on restoring degraded areas along the river; improving river access and public safety by constructing new docks and observation decks; and enhancing visitor experience by restoring natural conditions and providing habituat enhancements.
