America's Best Idea - the national parks are inviting you to come by for a visit, to relax, to learn a little bit about this great nation...and to just have some fun! What better time to experience a national park than National Park Week, April 17 - 25, 2010. To sweeten the deal all 392 national parks across the country will have free admission during National Park Week. In addition to the free admission, parks will be offering family friendly activities and special promotions. Check out the special National Park Week website at www.nps.gov/npweek

Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is one of 146 national parks that charge an entrance fee. The daily entrance fee is $3 and for the frequent visitor, a $25 annual park pass is available for purchase. Take advantage of this free week for some fun, family time, fresh air, and opportunities to learn about the Chattahoochee River.

The Chattahoochee River has exceptional educational and recreational opportunities for park visitors. You can hike the trails to visit the ruins of bygone days of industry found at Sope Creek and Vickery Creek. Sit awhile and watch the wildlife enjoying the warm spring days as they play amongst the spring wildflowers. Test out those new waders as you catch the big one.

To top off National Park Week, Saturday, April 24 is National Junior Ranger Day. This is a day for all Junior Rangers and budding Junior Rangers to get out and visit the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. The activities are planned to kick off at 1 p.m. at Paces Mill. Learn what it takes to put out a wildfire, how to stay safe while on the river, and how little critters in the river tell us about the river’s water quality. Print out a copy of the parks Junior Ranger booklet from www.nps.gov/chat/forkids/index.htm and begin to work on the activities. Bring your completed booklet to the Junior Ranger Day activities and receive your Chattahoochee River NRA Junior Ranger badge and certificate. Earn a Junior Ranger Day patch and certificate by participating in the days activities

Don’t pass up this chance to EXPERIENCE YOUR AMERICA – AMERICA’S BEST IDEA right in your own backyard!
