Harkers Island, NC - Based on the projected track of Hurricane Irene, Cape Lookout National Seashore has implemented its emergency weather evacuation plan. Cape Lookout National Seashore will evacuate all visitors from the National Seashore beginning on Thursday morning, August 25.
The seashore will be closed to all visitors (including overnight guests staying in the cabins and day visitors) and all services will be shut down, beginning at 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 25, and will remain clsoed from that time on, until further notice.
To allow staff to prepare seashore facilities for the storm, Portsmouth Village, the Light Station Visitor Center, Keepers' Quarters Museum and Cape Lookout Lighthouse climbing will be closed beginning at 8:00 AM on Thursday.
The National Park Service staff will be monitoring ongoing developments with Hurricane Irene and will post updates as needed on the park website at www.nps.gov/calo and via Twitter at twitter.com/CapeLookoutNPS.
