Cape Lookout Announces 2012 Summer Positions Available

Harkers Island, NC - Cape Lookout National Seashore announced the beginning of its 2012 summer hiring process. Cape Lookout National Seashore hires 20 or more summer seasonal employees each year. Positions will be announced in the coming weeks at https://www.USAJobs.gov. Announcements are generally open 14-21 days. Applications must be completed online by the closing date of the announcement.

Positions may be part-time or full-time and are generally seasonal (not to exceed 1,039 work hours per year), or temporary (not to exceed one year). For the 2012 Summer Season, the following positions will be available:

  • Biological Science Technician - Monitors activity and takes actions to protect shorebirds and other wildlife within the seashore. Positions begin late March, ending late September. Positions are at the GS-05/1 grade level with pay at about $15.00 per hour.
  • Park Ranger (Interpretation and Education) - Interpretation staff may be called Park Rangers or Park Guides.They work in the park's visitor centers, at the Lighthouse, and provide information to visitors and educational programs to school groups. Positions may be full time or part-time (3-5 days a week). Seasonal positions can begin in late April/early May and are needed until late September.Positions are at the GS-04/1 to GS-07/1 grade level with pay at about $11.95 to $16.00 per hour.
  • Park Ranger (Law Enforcement) - Applicants must have completed a National Park Service (NPS) approved seasonal law enforcement training program and/or have possessed a NPS Type 1 or Type 2 law enforcement commission within the last three years.Protection positions are at the GS-0025-05/08 grade level with pay at about $18.50 per hour.
  • Visitor Use Assistants (VUA) - VUAs work at the Long Point and Great Island Cabin Camp areas to greet visitors, register campers, and collect fees.Seasonal positions can begin in March and are needed until November. Positions are generally at the GS-04/1 grade level with pay at about $11.95 per hour.
