Visitor Center Update
The Visitor Center is OPEN! Major heating/cooling system work is done. Not all artifacts have been returned to display at this time. Once all artifacts are returned- fees return. CURRENTLY no fees or pass sales. Changes due August 22 or so.
Directions From Phoenix
Directions from the Phoenix Area:
Take I-10 East toward Tucson to AZ-387 at Exit 185, approximately 36 miles from Sky Harbor International Airport. Turn left at the end of the off-ramp onto AZ-187/AZ-387. Go over the I-10 overpass and then make a right turn onto AZ-387. Proceed east 7 miles to AZ-87. At the stop sign, make a right turn onto AZ-87.
Continue towards Coolidge for 7 miles to the traffic light at the intersection of AZ-87 and AZ-287. Turn right (south) onto Arizona Blvd. Look for the entrance to the monument about 1/2 mile on your right. Proceed for 3/4 mile down the entrance road to the visitor center.
Did You Know?
The ancient Sonoran Desert people made shell jewelry bracelets, rings, necklaces and pendants. Some of the jewelry was inlaid with turquoise, others had designs etched into the surface. The shells were acquired from as far away as the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California.
