Women’s Rights NHP Served as a Local Polling Place in Recent Election

Seneca Falls, NY - Women's Rights National Historical Park is proud to announce that it served as a polling place in the recent primary election held on Tuesday, April 24, 2012.The Women's Rights NHP Visitor Center, located at 136 Fall Street in Seneca Falls, was utilized as a polling place for the voters in District Two in Seneca Falls.Twenty-five persons voted at the Women's Rights NHP Visitor Center in this election.

"Women's Rights National Historical Park interprets the history of the 1848 First Women's Rights Convention," said Park Superintendent Tammy Duchesne."One of the fundamental rights of citizenship is the right to vote, and this right was stated publicly in the 1848 First Women's Rights Convention.We are proud to open the doors of the Women's Rights NHP Visitor Center to serve as one of the polling places in Seneca Falls. I can think of nothing more appropriate, relevant, or inspiring. "

"Women's Rights National Historical Park is an important venue for people to exercise their right to vote," added Park Ranger John Stoudt."For many years women and African-Americans were denied the right to vote in the United States, and Women's Rights NHP can serve as a place to engage our neighrbors in this rite of citizenship."

The Women's Rights NHP Visitor Center will be open as a polling station for elections on Tuesday, June 26, from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m., and Tuesday, November 6, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Visitor Center will offer extended hours to the public during voting days. On election days the hours of operation of the Women's Rights NHP will correspond with the hours that the polls are open.

Voters and the public are invited to view the park's orientation film and view the museum exhibits in the Visitor Center.Admission is free of charge.
