Schedule a Station Field Trip

Would your students like to explore the story of the second major battle from the experience of civilians to common soldiers to Civil War medicine? Do you want your students to have an extended field trip to the battlefield?

Program Outline

During this four-hour experience, your students will:

  • Explore the visitor center and explore exhibits about the causes of the Civil War and its aftermath in Missouri.
  • Discover the stories and experiences of common soldiers who fought for the United States, the Confederacy, the Missouri State Guard, and others.
  • Learn about the lives of civilians during the battle and the civil war. Black and white, enslaved and free - glimpse their experiences through a visit to the Ray House.
  • Expand their understanding of Civil War medicine from triage to treatment to recovery.
  • Explore the site of the heaviest fighting with a walk around Bloody Hill (optional, please let us know if you're interested).

Grade Level: 3rd-High School
Start Times: 10 am, 10:30 am, 11 am

Privacy Act Statement

Authority: Public Law 114-289 National Park Service Centennial Act and 54 U.S.C. 100701 Protection, interpretation, and research in System.

Purpose: To administer education programs for education audiences including but not limited to school groups, scouting groups, extracurricular groups, and home school groups.

Routine Uses: To effectively manage requests for education received by the NPS, the Education Reservation Request Form is used to collect basic education reservation information to facilitate operational aspects of scheduling groups for park education programs, including in-park education programs, ranger in classroom programs, and/or online distance learning programs.

Disclosure: Voluntary, however, failure to provide the requested information may impede the ability to grant your education reservation request.

All applicable parts of the form must be completed in order for your request to be considered. Advance reservations are required for all groups planning an educational field trip and are free. Contact the Education Office at (417) 732-2662 ext. 249 or via email for additional information.

Because of limited parking, we ask that groups (parents and chaperones driving separately) carpool with no more than eight (8) cars entering the battlefield at a time.
