Schedule a Caravan Tour Field Trip

Does your classroom only have a short time to visit the battlefield? Would you prefer to be guided by a single ranger through your experience? Do you want a broader overview of the day of the battle? Then the afternoon Caravan Tour is the right choice for your group.

Check for availability on Booking, complete the reservation form request below, then join us for a caravan tour of the second major battle of the Civil War.

Program Outline

During this 90-minute experience, you and your learners will:

  • Be guided around stops on the battlefield tour road by a single ranger.

  • Visit Ray House, Sigel's Final Position, and Bloody Hill to learn what happened at each location over the course of the day.

  • Learn about the experiences of individuals like the Rays, General Nathaniel Lyon, General Sterling Price and units like the 2nd Missouri Infantry, the 3rd Louisiana Infantry, and Totten's Battery.

Grade Level: Upper Elementary to High School
Standard Start Times: 12:30 pm, 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:00 pm

Authority: Public Law 114-289 National Park Service Centennial Act and 54 U.S.C. 100701 Protection, interpretation, and research in System.

Purpose: To administer education programs for education audiences including but not limited to school groups, scouting groups, extracurricular groups, and home school groups.

Routine Uses: To effectively manage requests for education received by the NPS, the Education Reservation Request Form is used to collect basic education reservation information to facilitate operational aspects of scheduling groups for park education programs, including in-park education programs, ranger in classroom programs, and/or online distance learning programs.

Disclosure: Voluntary, however, failure to provide the requested information may impede the ability to grant your education reservation request.

All applicable parts of the form must be completed in order for your request to be considered. Advance reservations are required for all groups planning an educational field trip and are free. Contact the Education Office at (417) 732-2662 or via email for additional information.

Because of limited parking, we ask that groups (parents and chaperones driving separately) carpool with no more than eight (8) cars entering the battlefield at a time.
