"One of the more effective ways to recount the story of the Battle of the Washita is to encourage park volunteers to take part in a living history program," said Superintendent Tucker Blythe. "It takes hours of study and commitment to assume the role, character and appearance of a trooper on the Indian frontier in 1868," Blythe went on to say. "But when Sergeant Smith and Corporal Martin assume their roles as members of Troop J, 7th Cavalry, our visitors get a better understanding of the life, hardships and emotions of those who were on November 27, 1868."
Come listen as two Cheyenne history buffs, Loren Smith and Scott Martin, tell of their journey and transformation into living history players as members of Troop J, 7th Calvary. This second program in the Summer Lecture Series will be held Sunday, June 29, at 2:00 p.m. at the park visitor center.
