Sponge Animal

The picture shows a top view of a cluster of marine sponges, showing the large, natural hole at the top of each sponge.
STATION E: You're swimming right over the top of a cluster of marine Sponges.  How interesting to see a sponge that is ALIVE, and not beside a kitchen sink!  This very simple marine animal has only one opening in its body.  Water currents move into and out of the body, bringing in microscopic pieces of food and carrying away waste products.

Look back toward the shallow water; something else is moving in the current; swim to Station F.
