Waul's Legion Units Monument

Monument located on Confederate Avenue south of the Texas State Memorial at Railroad Redoubt (Park Tour Stop 13). The monument for Waul's Texas Legion was constructed at a cost of $300 of which $200 was contributed by Pvt. Henry E. Losey, Company A, 77th Illinois Infantry (Major, U.S.C.T.). With the exception of the cavalry battalion listed previously, the Legion, consisting of the following units, was attached to Maj. Gen. Carter L. Stevenson's Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Col. Thomas N. Waul, who raised and equipped it.

1st Battalion Infantry - Commanded by Maj. Eugene S. Bolling.

2d Battalion Infantry - Commanded by Lt. Col. James Wrigley.

Artillery Company - Commanded by Capt. J. Q. Wall.

Cavalry Detachment - Commanded by Lt. Thomas L. Cleveland.
