Safety

We hope that your visit to Tupelo National Battlefield is enjoyable and safe. Please keep the following in mind while visiting the site:

  • Mississippi summers are sunny, hot, and humid. Sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of drinking water are recommended if you spend time outside.
  • Be alert for fire ant hills while walking around the monument site, and avoid stepping on these hills.
  • To avoid falls, and damage to the historic artifacts, please do not climb or sit on the monuments and cannons.
  • Bees, wasps, and other biting insects can nest in the cannons; do not reach into, or look directly into the cannons.
