In July 1846, U.S. Army forces, including men form the United States Colored Troops, marched into Tupelo, Mississippi. Disorganized Confederate soldiers fought fiercely but could not overpower the federal troops. Neither side could claim a clear victory, but Union troops had succeeded in their main goal; keeping the Confederates away from the Union railroads at Tennessee.

Paths

There is no curb cut to get from the street to the site. The site is in a mowed grass area with gentle slopes. There are two interpretive waysides placed in the grass parallel to the parking. There's no defined path leading to them. There is a sidewalk at the center of the site that connects the memorial features. There is a 1-inch change in level from he sidewalk to the grass.
