Tuskegee, Alabama — The National Park Service is pleased to announce the grand reopening of the George Washington Carver Museum, located on the historic campus of Tuskegee University, on Monday, May 5, 2025. This long-anticipated event marks a significant milestone in the preservation and interpretation of the life and legacy of George Washington Carver—renowned scientist, educator, artist, and humanitarian.

The celebration will begin with a formal Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on the museum grounds. Following the ceremony, guests will be invited to explore the newly reopened museum and participate in a range of interactive, educational activities from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. These family-friendly, hands-on stations will highlight themes central to Carver’s work, including science, agriculture, artist, and innovation. Students will have the opportunity to rotate through interactive educational stations led by partners such as:

  • Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI)
  • Alabama Technology in Motion
  • Macon County Extension Office
National Park Service staff will be available throughout the day to offer self-guided tours, historical interpretation, and visitor support services, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience for all.

All reopening events will take place at the George Washington Carver Museum on the Tuskegee University campus, where Carver conducted his groundbreaking research and educated generations of students.

This event is free and open to the public. To attend, visitors must obtain a vistor's pass from the Tuskegee University Public Safety Building. All vistors attending the Grand Reopening are required to adhere to Tuskegee University's Public Safety polices. Join us in celebrating the life and work of a visionary whose contributions continue to shape science, education, and sustainability worldwide.
