Report and New Program Guidance Issued

The National Park Service issued a final report in December 2016 summarizing the actions taken to implement the results of an internal review on promoting the use of the Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives Program in urban and economically depressed areas. The issuance of this final report marks the conclusion of this review, which was requested by then-Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar in 2013.

As part of the action plan, the NPS developed new guidance on functionally related buildings that provides examples of situations in which a project involving multiple buildings that were functionally related historically may be treated as separate projects for the purposes of certification.

The NPS also issued new guidance on planning successful rehabiliation projects and revised the information on requests for preliminary consultations.
