Timpanogos Cave trail opens for fitness use, cave tours go virtual for now

Following guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities, Timpanogos Cave National Monument is increasing recreational access and services. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local public health authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and using a phased approach to increase access on a park-by-park basis.

Beginning May 29, the park will reopen daily access to the Timpanogos Cave trail, popular for scenic views and fitness walking. All park restrooms will be open and rangers will be available for safety and visitor assistance.

With public health in mind, cave tours remain closed at this time. Tours will resume when visitors can safely enjoy the caves in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

Beginning June 4th, the park is excited to offer new ranger guided virtual cave tours, available from the park Facebook page, every Monday and Thursday at 11:30 am throughout the summer.  Utilizing a recent digital scan of the caves, the park has created a virtual cave experience. Rangers will highlight details often missed on a normal tour and answer questions in real time for visitors who can enjoy the caves from the comfort of home.

The park will also be releasing a series of wildlife, science, and behind-the-scenes videos throughout the summer. The productions will be posted on the park’s Facebook page.

The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners continues to be paramount. The park will regularly monitor each facility and service to ensure those operations comply with current public health guidance.  The park will notify the public when tour operations can safely resume; updates will be provided on the park’s website and social media channels.
