Timpanogos Cave open for the season Wednesday, June 19 with New Visitor Center
The National Park Service is pleased to announce the completion of the new Timpanogos Cave visitor center and the start of summer cave tours on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.
“We’re excited to finally welcome the public in these new facilities.” said Superintendent Jim Ireland, “This has been a long time coming, but we believe that the changes we’ve made will improve safety and visitor enjoyment for years to come.”
Visitation continues to increase to both Timpanogos Cave and American Fork Canyon, so proper planning is important. Cave tours regularly sell out well in advance and visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets up to 30 days in advance at www.recreation.gov. Visiting during non-peak times is strongly encouraged, as holidays and weekends are very busy.
Beginning this season, payment for cave tour tickets and passes at the visitor center will be by credit or debit cards only. Cash and check payments will no longer be accepted.
The new visitor center replaces a modular building installed as an emergency replacement following an accidental fire February 1991. The project was completed by Ralph L Wadsworth Construction Company of Salt Lake City.
This summer, visitors will also enjoy new exhibits along the cave trail, interpreting the geology and other stories of the Monument. These new exhibits were purchased by The Friends of Timpanogos Cave through a generous donation from Intermountain Healthcare.
Details about ticket purchases, updated pricing, tour schedules, and other programs are available on the park website at www.nps.gov/tica.
