Thing to Do
Watch the sunset from the piazza

NPS/Marie Clifford
One of the Roosevelts' favorite things about their home Sagamore Hill was the large porch (or piazza), wrapping around the west side of the home. Theodore Roosevelt would sit on the porch and read, the family would spend time lounging there on hotter days, and the views of Oyster Bay and Connecticut were stunning.
Now, the trees surrounding Sagamore Hill National Historic Site are too tall to see Oyster Bay or Connecticut, but the sunsets as seen from the porch are still beautiful.
The park is open until 30 minutes after sunset, daily. So feel free to stick around when you visit, and watch the sunset from the piazza.
