Plum Orchard Tour

Plum Orchard Mansion was built in 1898 by Lucy Carnegie for her son, George Lauder Carnegie, as a wedding present. The esteemed Boston-based architectural firm Peabody and Stearns was employed for its construction. This home reflects an opulent era in the island's history; one of recreation, relaxation, and time spent with family.
Tour times are 11:00 AM, 1:00PM, and 2:00 PM and last about 45 minutes. Docents will begin the tour from the mansion's front door/ porch. There are public restrooms on site. Tours cover the first and second floors and basement.
*Tour capacity is reduced to 10 people per tour. Masks are optional inside the mansion.
**Getting to Plum Orchard is not an easy task. Located 7 miles North of the Sea Camp dock, visitors are responsible for traveling the distance on bike or on foot (hiking the 14 mile round trip is not recommended for day visitors).
***Public dock at Plum Orchard is open from sunrise to sunset, is first come first serve and is available for boats under 25-feet.
****Plum Orchard is closed during managed hunts on the island. Hunts are held October through January each year. Check the managed hunts page to see if this may impact your visit. Lands & Legacies tours will not be impacted by this closure.
