For those who want to delve into the scientific history of the Manhattan Project and Los Alamos, a trip to the Bradbury Science Museum can’t be missed.  

The museum gives visitors a glimpse into the history of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, its national security mission, and the exciting science and technology research conducted at the lab today.  

Visitors can see more than 40 interactive exhibits in the Museum’s three galleries, focused on history, defense, and research. Two 16-minute films shown throughout the day tell the stories of the race to build the first atomic bomb during the Manhattan Project and the work the Lab does today to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent.  

The museum’s TechLab offers a hands-on experience geared toward children and families, exploring scientific and technical concepts. 

Exhibits include information on the Laboratory’s research on life sciences, achievements in space, supercomputing, energy and the environment. 

At the museum, you can see a variety of exhibits related to the Manhattan Project, including: 

• Manhattan on the Mesa exhibit 

• Racing Toward Dawn history film 

• Manhattan Project and WWII timelines and exhibits 

• They Changed the World interactive biographies and photos 

• A New Look at Trinitite exhibit 

• Manhattan Project Objects and Artifacts 

• Full-scale models of Fat Man and Little Boy

The Bradbury Science Museum is wheelchair accessible, with two wheelchairs available for visitor use on site. Most video presentations are captioned and the museum’s feature films, Racing Toward Dawn and Mission: Stockpile Stewardship, are closed-captioned and include hearing-assistance systems. Only service animals registered with the US Service Animal and Support Animal (ESA) Registry are allowed in the Bradbury Museum.
