Join a Park Ranger and volunteer Fishing Ambassadors to Learn to Surf Fish!
This family friendly program is designed for the absolute beginner to learn all about fishing. From basic tackle, knot tying, casting, to stewardship and conservation, park staff and volunteers will help you gain the knowledge to pick up fishing all on your own.
This 2-hour program starts at the Malaquite Visitor Center and begins with a classroom session and then moves down to Malaquite Beach to fish for approximately 45-60 minutes. All equipment is provided thanks to our friends at the IGFA! Participants should come prepared with what they need for the weather conditions, including sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, drinking water, and clothes that can get wet.
Space is limited and advance registration is required. Signup by calling the Malaquite Visitor Center at 361-949-8068. You may signup beginning 7 days before each program date.
Children must be accompanied by a participating adult during the program. A fishing license is not required for this instructional program and all fishing is catch and release only.
