Thing to Do
Rim Rock Trail - South Rim
Moderately strenuous - 1 mile from South Rim Campground to Visitor Center
Hike the mile-long Rim Rock Trail, which meanders along the canyon rim and connects the South Rim Visitor Center to the South Rim Campground. Take in the stunning depths of the canyon walls, glimpses of the Gunnison River, and panoramic vistas of the West Elk Mountains. You can take a break at Tomichi Point, which has a bench with a picturesque view of the canyon about halfway down the trail. The trail is fairly level but watch out for some rocks sticking up along the way.
Pets are allowed on this trail, except during summer months due to potentially aggressive deer protecting their fawns.
The trailhead is near the entrance to Campground Loop C and ends at the South Rim Visitor Center.
