Step into the depths of Gap Cave, a place where history and natural beauty intertwine beneath the Cumberland Gap. Once a hidden passage during the Civil War, this cave has been explored for centuries, offering shelter, mystery, and wonder to those who ventured inside. For over a century, visitors have been captivated by Gap Cave’s rich history and stunning formations. Now, you can join a two-hour tour through this underground marvel, walking the same paths as soldiers, explorers, and early tourists before you. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or an adventure seeker, Gap Cave is an experience like no other.
Tour Availability
Guided tours are offered from May through September, with a maximum of 20 participants per tour. Availability may be affected by weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.
Reservations must be made by noon the day before your desired tour date.
Interagency Senior Pass - $4.00
Interagency Access Pass - $4.00
Children ages five through twelve - $4.00
Refund & Cancellation Policy:
Tours are subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances. If a tour is canceled by the park, participants will be notified and refunded. No refunds will be given for missed tours or late arrivals.
- Call 606-248-2817 or visit the Visitor Center between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily to make a reservation.
- Reservations can be made up to 1 month in advance.
On the Day of Your Tour
Arrive at the Visitor Center in Middlesboro, Kentucky and pay for your tour before 9:30 a.m.
Important: If no reservations have been made by noon the day before the tour, the tour will be canceled.
- Due to the nature of the cave terrain, the tour is not wheelchair accessible.
- Visitors should be prepared for uneven surfaces, stairs, and dim lighting.
- White-Nose Syndrome Alert: This disease is affecting bat populations. To help prevent its spread:
- Wear clean footwear and clothing that have not been in other caves.
- Or ensure footwear and clothing have been properly decontaminated.
