Difficulty: Intermediate - Difficult
Take this 12 mile out-and-back route starting at Haskell Gate to Big Spring Brook Hut. Travel past Haskell Rock Pitch to the intersection with Little Messer Pond Road. Continue past Messer Pond until you arrive at the turn-off for Big Spring Brook Hut. A mountain bike is recommended due to rough terrain. The section along Little Messer Pond Road is uphill and steep in some areas. Big Spring Brook Hut is open to use during the winter months by reservation.
Looking for something more strenuous? To extend your trip, consider traveling by foot or bike an additional 2.7 miles (one way) to the Valley View overlook, facing the Wassataquoik Stream Valley. This section has a 973ft ascent and is strenuous, rocky, and susceptible to water damage and downed trees.
Safety tip: Travel on the Keyhole Road past the Big Spring Brook Hut is not advised at this time due to forest regrowth on large sections of the trail.
