Thing to Do
Behold the Granite Mountains

NPS Photo
A paved pullout about seven miles north of Highway 40 on Kelbaker Road allows visitors to park their cars and enjoy the view of the Granite Mountains. There is parking for five vehicles at a time. This is a great location to catch a sunset or to have a leisurely tailgate picnic. The Granite Mountains are some of the most scenic in the Preserve. It looks as though a giant haphazardly piled boulders on top of each other. Erosion has caused the boulders to be rounded, with frequent hoodoos, canyons, and dry waterfalls in its lower washes. Bring binoculars if you wish to see the complexities of the mountain's shape.
