How can learning about peace and friendship help us create a better world, just like the United States, Canada, and Great Britain did after the War of 1812?

Students will learn about the concepts of peace and kindness through engaging and age-appropriate activities. As students explore each activity, they will develop a foundational understanding of what it means to be a peacemaker by learning about sharing, showing kindness, and understanding others.  Activities include games like “The Sharing Game” and “Friendship Freeze Dance,” Which introduce social-emotional skills in a fun and interactive way. Storytime features “The Friendship Bridge,” where students hear about two characters who resolve conflicts and become friends, connecting this to the real-world friendship between the United States and Canada after the War of 1812. Creative activities, like building a collaborative “Peace Garden,” allow students to visualize how acts of kindness make the world a better place.

Program Goals:

  • Introduce the concepts of peace, kindness, and understanding.
  • Help children understand how countries can work together to be friends, using the United States and Canada as examples.
  • Build on social emotional skills through interactive play.
  • Foster a sense of community and friendship.
