U.S. Park Police Releases Initial Details of Nov. 22 Officer Involved in Shooting

WASHINGTON – On November 22, 2023, at about 2:30 p.m., a U.S. Park Police officer contacted an individual for a suspected narcotics violation in the area of 12th Street and Massachusetts Avenue NW. The individual fled on foot heading north on 12th St NW. The individual and the officer exchanged gun fire, resulting in both parties being shot.    

Responding officers immediately rendered aid to both the involved individual and officer, who were transported to area hospitals. The individual was pronounced deceased at the hospital. A firearm was recovered at the scene.   

This investigation is being conducted by the Metropolitan Police Department. USPP policy for an officer involved shooting calls for an officer to be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation. USPP will release a video showing the involved officer’s body worn camera footage within 30 days.
